The presence of the Despagne family in Saint-Emilion dates back as far as the 17th century. Louis Despagne, a sharecropper who worked at Cheval Blanc, was the first to acquire the family's plots of land at a place named Grand Corbin in 1812. François Despagne acquiered Château Rochers de Joanin with the same philosophy as its others estates.
