Description

The seventh release of Balvenie Tun 1509 is a combination of 21 hand-selected casks - four American oak barrels, 10 sherry butts and seven hogsheads - that have spent three in a traditional marrying tun. Rich aromas of oak, dried fruits, raisins, dates, ground ginger and brown sugar fill the nose. The palate offers notes of tangy candied orange peel, oaky vanilla, golden syrup, honeycomb, toasted hazelnuts, ginger and nutmeg that linger in the finish.

Distillery

The Balvenie Whiskies have a definite distillery character, all the whiskies are sweet with honey and vanilla notes. This distillery character is then nicely combined with flavours of different casks. The marriage of fruity flavours with the honey and vanilla makes Balvenie a typical Speyside distillery. The core range is large with the 12 years Double Wood as their leading Whisky, and the core range goes up to the 30 year-old. These Whiskies become even better as the sweet and soft tones are complemented with oak and darker flavours like leather or cigars.

Ingredients

  1. 1 bottle of Your Favourite Red Wine (Preferably Grenache or Tempranillo)
  2. 45 ml of Your Favourite Brandy
  3. 480 ml of Your Favourite Ginger Ale
  4. 1 lemon
  5. 1 orange
  6. 1 apple
  7. 2 tbsp of sugar

Instructions

  1. Cut the lemon, orange and apple into wedges.
  2. Add the fruits into a pitcher and muddle it for 45 seconds.
  3. Add the brandy and ginger ale and muddle it again for 30 seconds.
  4. Next, pour in the red wine. Add in the sugar. Stir gently to incorporate the flavours together.
  5. Cover the pitcher with plastic wrap. Rest it in the refrigerator for a minimum of 8 hours before serving.
