Fontanafredda’s Barolo DOCG is a prime example of the renowned Barolo region in Piedmont, Italy. It is made entirely from the noble Nebbiolo grape, grown on the historic slopes of the Langhe, especially around the Serralunga d’Alba commune, at elevations of approximately 300–400 m with calcareous‑marl soils.
Founded in the mid‑19th century, Fontanafredda blends traditional heritage with modern winemaking techniques. This Barolo is crafted using classic fermentation in stainless steel vats with the “cappello sommerso” method, followed by extended skin contact to extract optimal phenolics.
Post-fermentation, the wine matures in large Slavonian or Allier oak barrels for varying periods depending on the vintage, imparting both structure and ageing potential. For the Riserva style, the wine is aged for a minimum of 62 months, including at least 36 months in oak.
The finished wine reflects a strong sense of terroir, offering the hallmark Nebbiolo aromas of rose, tar, red fruit, and forest floor, supported by firm tannins and balanced acidity, characteristic of an exceptional Barolo.
