Grapes from the region's historical varietals (Garnacha and Cariñena) and from its most vintage vineyards (about 60 years old) planted on terraces, the Priorat's typical “costers” with their licorella slate terroirs. Due to the steep landscape, the trellising of the vines and above all the desire to obtain only the choicest grapes, harvesting is carried out solely by hand. Aged for 24 months in 1400-litre casks, 500-litre barrels and 225-litre barrels. Each vineyard for Scala Dei Cartoixa Grenache grapes were aged separately with different treatment during aging to ensure the best measure that fully expresses its terroir.

Tasting Notes

  • Appearance Appearance
    A deep to very deep, dense morello cherry red with violet hues.
  • Nose Nose
    The intense aromas of ripe black fruits, plum plus a touch of violet intermingle with distinct mineral notes from the licorella slate terroir. Its aging in barrels gives it spicy aromas such as vanilla, pepper and toasty notes.
  • Palate
    On the palate it is robust, buttery, supple with intense mature tannins, with full rounded body and a long lingering finish.

  1. 1 bottle of Scala Dei - Cartoixa Grenache (Preferably Grenache or Tempranillo)
  2. 45 ml of Your Favourite Brandy
  3. 480 ml of Your Favourite Ginger Ale
  4. 1 lemon
  5. 1 orange
  6. 1 apple
  7. 2 tbsp of sugar


  1. Cut the lemon, orange and apple into wedges.
  2. Add the fruits into a pitcher and muddle it for 45 seconds.
  3. Add the brandy and ginger ale and muddle it again for 30 seconds.
  4. Next, pour in the red wine. Add in the sugar. Stir gently to incorporate the flavours together.
  5. Cover the pitcher with plastic wrap. Rest it in the refrigerator for a minimum of 8 hours before serving.
