Alion is crafted from a meticulous selection of terroirs located throughout some of the finest areas of the Ribera del Duero DO. These complementary soils, combined with the same rigorous winemaking approach used at Vega Sicilia, result in wines with notable firmness and structure.
The 2017 vintage is remembered as the “vintage of the frost” (April 28). Fortunately, the impact on our vineyards was minimized due to our strategy of producing 25% more fruit than needed and performing double pruning during winter.
Given the warmer and drier conditions that year, the use of oak was adjusted: 72% new barrels, 18% used barrels, and 10% concrete. This approach allowed us to refine the wine’s tannin texture while preserving its freshness and length.
Although 2017 was a challenging year, it ultimately produced a wine with remarkable character and balance.
Deep, shiny ruby in color.
Expressive and layered: dark and red berries, plum, with spicy and floral notes.
Rich fruit core: wild berries, cherry, plum; juicy but concentrated. Creamy yet firm structure, finely grained and polished high-quality tannins
