This pure Carignan is made from sixty-year-old vines that grow in a terroir of clay-rich and sandy alluvium. It is a single-parcel cuvée that comes from the lieu-dit ‘Les Combariolles’ in Jonquieres.
Clos de la Barthassade works organically, with some of their methods resembling biodynamics. The vines undergo ‘gobelet’ pruning. Once harvested, the grapes are vinified traditionally with total destemming. The wine is then matured for 24 months in casks and concrete eggs.
In the glass, this is a wine gives off notes of kirsch and blackcurrant. Oaky aromas are conferred from the ageing process. It is round on the palate with a fresh and balanced finish.
