When it comes to iconic spirits, one name that stands out is Absolut Vodka. Dating back to 1879, this renowned vodka has garnered a reputation for its exceptional quality and pristine taste. Originally known as "Absolutely Pure Vodka," this brand has stood the test of time and continues to captivate the palates of vodka drinkers worldwide.
Developed by Lars Olsson Smith, a visionary Swedish entrepreneur, Absolut Vodka revolutionized the distillation process by eliminating the production of fusel alcohol, resulting in a cleaner and purer spirit. What sets Absolut Vodka apart goes beyond its history. The distillery, located in Åhus, Sweden, has been a cornerstone of the brand since its inception. It remains the birthplace and heart of Absolut Vodka's production.
Let's learn more about this premium spirit in our Absolut Vodka review.

The distillery sources all its ingredients from Southern Sweden, ensuring distinct and authentic flavours and dedication to sustainability. This includes winter wheat sown in the fall and harvested the following year, developing its hard grain under the protective cover of snow. Once harvested, grain kernels are milled, mixed with natural water to form a mash, heated to 95˚C for purification, and then cooled to 35˚C for fermentation.
Absolut Vodka is committed to CO2-neutral distillation, minimizing its carbon footprint. The production involves continuous distillation in column stills to achieve a pure final product. This includes two raw spirit distillation columns and five fine-spirit columns. Finally, filtration through a simple barrier filter takes place to ensure the clarity of the vodka and the 40% ABV. Demonstrating their dedication to sustainability, Absolut Vodka uses more than 53% recycled glass for their bottles.
Beyond Absolut's meticulous process, it provides a versatile sensory experience.
Absolut Vodka exhibits a crystal-clear and pristine appearance, exuding an inviting allure that captures the eye. Its transparency reflects the brand's commitment to purity and quality, making it visually appealing both in the glass and in vodka cocktails. Additionally, Absolut Vodka special editions are released from time to time, featuring unique bottle designs and limited availability.
When it comes to the aroma, Absolut Vodka offers a delicate yet distinctive scent profile. The nose is greeted with subtle notes of grain and a hint of sweetness. The inviting fragrance creates anticipation for the smooth and refined experience to come.
With a remarkably smooth mouthfeel thanks to the pure, natural water used in making the vodka, the flavour offers a gentle sweetness, with hints of caramel, vanilla, and a fruity and fresh finish. This harmonious blend results in a clean, crisp, and balanced taste that lingers with a touch of warmth.
Absolut Vodka is readily available in Singapore, found in liquor stores, supermarkets, and online retailers. The price typically ranges from $57 to $172, depending on the bottle size, flavour, and selection. But with Paneco, you can enjoy Absolut Vodka for a special member price — $45.96 for a 750ml bottle when you sign up.
As a bartender, my preference leans towards using smooth vodka for cocktails and general use. Absolut Vodka is worth the money for its quality-to-price ratio. It is smooth enough for a variety of cocktails and is perfect for parties and other social gatherings due to its affordability. Absolut has a variety of expressions apart from the flavoured vodkas and premium pour Absolut Elyx, which is perfect for sipping cocktails like vodka martinis and so much more. With dedicated craftsmanship, high-quality ingredients, and a commitment to sustainability, Absolut Vodka stands as a premium spirit perfect for discerning vodka enthusiasts worldwide.
It's perfect for a variety of mixers like sodas, tonics, and fruit juices if you would prefer not to have it on its own.
It comes in a number of sizes depending on the retailer and flavour, from 50ml all the way to 1.75L bottles. The most common sizes are 700ml and 1L.
Most spirits are shelf stable due to the high alcohol content, but I would recommend keeping it inside a freezer for optimum flavour and texture. Keep it away from direct sunlight. If the bottle is half empty, transferring the remaining liquid to a smaller bottle can reduce oxidation and keep the quality lasting longer.
